November 2006 ALC Meeting
The Appalachian Lumbermen’s Club met on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Rock Barn Country Club in Conover, NC. Several members and guests enjoyed golf at the course which hosted the PGA Seniors tour in September. Others enjoyed a luxurious treatment at the Rock Barn Spa which was modeled after the infamous spa at the Grove Park in Asheville. Others met at Shooter’s in Statesville for an afternoon of sporting clays.
The unseasonably warm weather allowed the 110 attendees to enjoy the social hour on the patio followed by an incredible meal in the ballroom. Newlyweds, Rodney & Rose Lawing, Conover Lumber Co., arrived just after their wedding ceremony earlier that afternoon. Speaker, Tony Gunter, with the NC Department of Agriculture focused on exporting and the importance of finding new markets. He showed how much the industry has shifted in the last ten years. Furthermore, he explained that the NC Dept of Agriculture is available to help companies wanting to venture into the export market. This help can be anything from discounted booth space, to finding freight forwarders, to planning overseas trips.
The Appalachian Lumbermen’s Club will meet again on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at the Holiday Inn in Hickory, NC. This group contains 265 members including manufacturers, wholesalers, distribution yards, end users and suppliers in the forest products industry.
